Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post of Wayanad MP after winning two Lok Sabha constituencies, Rae Bareli and Wayanad (Priyanka Gandhi filed nomination from Wayanad). Therefore the seat of this constituency was vacant. There Priyanka Gandhi was declared the candidate from Congress.
