Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will file her nomination before the Returning Officer (RO) in Kalpetta. Party sources said that the nomination will be filed before the District Collector at 12 noon.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress President and Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will be present on this occasion. Along with the Chief Ministers, prominent national and state leaders will also be present to show their support.
Before filing nominations on Wednesday, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will lead a road show from Kalpetta New Bus Stand at 11 am and then go to the district collector to file nomination papers at 12 noon.
Priyanka Gandhi is the UDF candidate for the Wayanad parliamentary by-election.
It is noteworthy that Priyanka's brother and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi had won this seat along with Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Days after the June 4 results, Congress announced that Rahul Gandhi would retain the Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency and vacate the Wayanad seat, paving the way for his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to make her electoral debut.
The Election Commission had last Tuesday announced by-elections for Wayanad and Nanded Lok Sabha seats as well as 48 assembly constituencies.
By-elections for the Wayanad parliamentary seat and 47 assembly seats will be held on November 13 along with the first phase of voting for the Jharkhand Assembly. The results will be declared on 23 November.
