Producers Guild reacts to Don 3 controversy
Mumbai: The ongoing controversy surrounding Ranveer Singh and the reported fallout over Don 3 has prompted the Producers Guild of India to issue a strong statement against last-minute withdrawals from film projects.
Without naming any individual directly, the Guild expressed concern over a growing trend of actors, directors and technicians backing out of commitments shortly before filming begins, warning that such actions can cause significant financial and operational disruptions.
Producers Guild raises concerns over industry practices
In its statement, the Producers Guild said it had received formal complaints from member production houses regarding instances where key personnel allegedly withdrew from projects at the eleventh hour.
The organisation noted that such actions can result in substantial financial losses for producers, disrupt production schedules and affect multiple stakeholders involved in filmmaking.
According to the Guild, the impact extends beyond producers, affecting crew members, technicians and support staff whose livelihoods depend on projects proceeding as scheduled.
Complaints linked to major production houses
The statement referred to complaints submitted by Excel Entertainment and Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, has raised concerns regarding developments connected to Don 3.
Separately, Panorama Studios reportedly complained about actor Akshaye Khanna allegedly stepping away from work related to Drishyam 3 shortly before filming was scheduled to commence.
Guild stresses professionalism and trust
The Producers Guild stated that no member of the film industry should engage in conduct that causes avoidable losses and uncertainty.
According to the organisation, sudden exits can damage the reputation, credibility and commercial prospects of a project while undermining the professional relationships that form the foundation of the entertainment industry.
The Guild emphasised that filmmaking is a collaborative process involving hundreds of professionals, making reliability and commitment essential for successful execution.
Ranveer Singh responds with legal action
The controversy escalated after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees reportedly issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh.
In response, the actor is understood to have sent a legal notice to the organisation challenging the move.
Subsequently, FWICE announced the withdrawal of the directive and stated that it would respond to the legal communication. Reports suggest the decision followed requests from industry bodies including the Producers Guild, the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association and the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association.
Industry seeks amicable resolution
The Producers Guild reiterated its support for a fair and professional working environment and urged all parties involved in disputes to seek amicable solutions.
The body maintained that unnecessary disruptions to film productions are harmful to the industry and called for greater accountability from all stakeholders.
As discussions continue behind the scenes, the controversy has reignited debate about contractual commitments, professional ethics and dispute-resolution mechanisms within the Indian film industry.
Whether the Don 3 dispute is resolved privately or leads to further industry action remains to be seen, but the Guild’s intervention highlights growing concerns about the consequences of last-minute project withdrawals.
