Case registered on the basis of father’s complaint
Based on the complaint of the student’s father, the police registered a case on Thursday. In the FIR, the father has alleged that on September 18, his daughter was ragged and beaten by three college students. Besides, he was also threatened to remain silent. Apart from this, serious allegations have also been made against a professor of indecent behavior and sexual harassment of a student.
Condition worsened due to continuous harassment
According to the FIR, the student’s health continued to deteriorate after ragging, mental pressure and alleged sexual harassment. She started falling ill and due to mental stress, her condition became more serious. He ultimately died during treatment at a medical college in Ludhiana. The father said that due to his daughter’s poor condition and shock, he could not contact the police earlier.
Legal action against the accused
Police have registered a case against three girl students under the Indian Judicial Code and the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009. At the same time, a case of sexual harassment has been registered against the concerned professor. Police say that the matter is being investigated impartially and thoroughly.
College administration’s reaction
College principal Rakesh Pathania expressed condolences to the student’s family, but said that the college administration had not received any formal complaint of ragging or harassment from the student. He also told that the student had failed in some subjects in the first year, due to which she was mentally disturbed and was not attending classes for a long time.
