Prohibitory orders to be relaxed in Imphal Valley; schools, colleges to remain shut- The Week
Schools and colleges in the Imphal Valley districts of Manipur will remain closed till November 23, authorities said on Wednesday even as an uneasy calm prevailed in the region after a fresh wave of violence.
The educational institutions in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching were closed on November 16 following the protests triggered by the violent clashes in Jiribam district.
Both state-run and private schools and colleges will remain closed till November 23, the notification said.
Prohibitory orders to be relaxed
Meanwhile, in separate notifications, the authorities said the prohibitory orders issued in the Imphal Valley districts will be relaxed for five hours every morning to enable people to buy essential items.
The relaxation will be allowed from 5 am to 10 am.
“Due to improvement in law and orders in the district, there is a need to relax the restriction on movement to facilitate public to purchase essential items, including medicines and food items,” said the similar-worded notifications issued by each district administration.
The relaxation, however, will not apply to any gathering, large scale movement of people or any sit-in protests.
Mobile internet suspension extended
The state government has extended the suspension of mobile internet for three more days in seven districts.
Both broadband and mobile internet services were suspended in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi on November 16 to prevent the spreading of content that might create law and order problems.
However, the suspension of broadband services was lifted on Tuesday.
