Protests flare up again in POK: 1 dead, many injured in Rangers firing

New Delhi: The situation in Pakistan occupied Kashmir has once again become tense. The movement that started against government action and arrest of more than 600 activists has now turned violent. On Sunday, one person was killed and several people were injured in firing by Pak Rangers in Dadyal.

Allegation of firing on peaceful demonstration in Dayal

Media agency PTI’s POK unit said on social media that demonstrations were held in many areas on Sunday in support of the ongoing strike in Rawalakot. Meanwhile, police and Rangers opened fire on the protesters in Amb village of Dadyal tehsil of Mirpur district.

Media agency PTI wrote in the post, "Police and Rangers opened fire on peaceful protesters in Dadyal Amb. One person died and several were injured after being shot by Rangers." These claims have not yet been independently verified.

Big movement of JAAC, thousands of people on the streets

This protest is going on under the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee JAAC. According to the committee, thousands of people including women, children and elderly had gathered at Sardar Ghulam Hussain Khan Stadium in Abbaspur. From there the group moved towards the Rawalkot protest site.

JAAC alleged that security forces opened fire to disperse the crowd, seriously injuring several people. The organization says that despite the arrests, security restrictions and use of force, the movement is gaining momentum.

March took place from Charhoi to Rawalakot

According to the POK unit of media agency PTI, hundreds of people, including women, also demonstrated in Charhoi. The protesters are demanding basic constitutional and economic rights and the release of detained activists. Demonstrations were held simultaneously in several towns of POK. The protest continues in Rawalakot.

Aman Khan’s appeal for unity with India

These demonstrations have intensified after the appeal of JAAC leader Sardar Aman Khan. A few days ago, in a video message, Khan had asked the people of Srinagar, Ladakh, Poonch, Rajouri and Jammu to support the people of POK. He alleged that Pakistani authorities have even stopped the supply of food and drink to the protesters.

In the meeting at Rawalakot, Khan said, "It was Pakistan Army that gave guns to Kashmiris. Today they are calling us terrorists." At present there are restrictions on internet and movement in POK. In view of the situation, security has been further tightened.
