The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is off to a rocky start, to say the least. The T20 league’s opening week has been marred with controversies left, right and centre. Whether it is on the field with poor quality kits or at press conferences, the PSL can’t seem to catch a break.
Recently, before the Karachi Kings vs Quetta Gladiators clash, another embarrassing moment was recorded between commentators Mushtaq Ahmed and Dominic Cork. Former English cricketer Cork was asking what advice Mushtaq would give to Adam Zampa, who is part of the Karachi Kings team. Taking this opportunity, Mushtaq chose to remind Cork about his supposedly great record against him. The former English bowler was caught embarrassed as Mushtaq tried to remind him about how he had dismissed him multiple times in their careers. But interestingly, Mushtaq’s statement wasn’t entirely true. So here is a look at what the record was when these two players met in international cricket.

When being asked about what advice he would give to Adam Zampa before he made his debut for the Karachi Kings in PSL, Ahmed chose to remind how he kept Cork in his “pocket.”
Cork, in his defence, replied that Mushtaq had gotten him out only once. However, the former Pakistani spinner remained adamant on how he had gotten Cork out multiple times in Tests, ODIs, and First-Class cricket.
Cork, 54, talked about how he was not a recognised batter in the English batting lineup during his playing days. He had a meagre average of 18 and 10 in tests and ODIs, respectively. He was more of a bowler for his team, picking up 172 international wickets in 69 games.

Unlike what Mushtaq said during his interaction with Cork, it is only once that he dismissed the English bowler. The sole dismissal came in a test match in 1996. Playing at The Oval in London, Mushtaq got the better of Cork in England’s second innings. The Pakistani spinner bowled Cork out after he had scored 26 runs in 33 balls.
Mushtaq Ahmed did not enjoy much success when playing against England. The Pakistani spinner picked up 46 wickets against them in 30 innings. He averaged close to 50 with the ball against England in ODIs, where he was limited to a holding bowler and did not possess the wicket-taking impact. In nine tests, his average of 32.9 against England was slightly better.
