PSL 2026 Introduces Bizarre New Rule with Two Team Sheets
Right now, Pakistan Super League 2026 is moving fast. It started March 26 when Lahore faced Hyderabad in the first match. As games roll on, a fresh change has appeared in how things are played. That shift came with one updated regulation introduced just before play began.
Right off the bat, the tournament rolled out a fresh change – captains now carry two team sheets when heading to the toss. Because of this shift, players can pick their eleven depending on how the coin lands. From the very first match, it took hold, with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Marnus Labuschagne stepping onto the field each holding dual lineups
“Before the toss, each captain may submit two (2) different XI lineups in writing to the PSL Match Referee. Each lineup must include 11 players and a maximum of 4 substitute fielders (subject to Clause 1.2.5). After the toss, each captain must finalise one of the two submitted lineups by signing the selected team sheet. Once the final lineup has been nominated, no player listed in the selected playing eleven may be changed before the start of the match without the consent of the opposing captain,” Clause 1.2.1 in the “Nomination and Replacement of Players” section read.
Lahore Qalandars registered a comfortable win in the season opener
Midway through the afternoon, Lahore Qalandars faced off against Hyderabad Kingsmen under the lights of Gaddafi Stadium. Batting first, they set an aggressive pace right from the start. Off the very first over, Fakhar Zaman pushed hard – hitting boundaries freely – to finish with 53 off just 39 balls. While wickets fell around him, Haseebullah Khan held firm, closing on 40 not out. By stumps in the opening innings, the scoreboard read 199, built on sharp strokes and steady nerve.
Falling short by a wide margin, Kingsmen managed just 130 before being dismissed entirely. Chasing proved futile as Qalandars had already built a strong foundation earlier in the match. A 69-run gap stood between effort and result when the final wicket fell. Their opening clash ended in clear dominance under the lights. Season debut? Marked firmly with confidence
