Punjab:The recently concluded Gram Panchayat elections in Punjab have given important signals in the politics of the state. In these elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demonstrated its strong hold in rural areas by performing remarkably. In the Sarpanch elections held in 580 villages, AAP supported candidates won 261 seats, which is about 45 percent of the total seats.

Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal had to face relatively weak results in these elections.

According to sources in the Rural Development Department, the voting percentage in these elections was satisfactory and in many places it was recorded more than 70 percent. The pace of development at the local level has accelerated due to the government’s decisions to give more powers and funds to Panchayats. This year, more budget has been allocated to Panchayats for development works than before.

Morale boosting victory before 2027

Political experts say that this result will prove to be a big morale booster for the AAP government before the 2027 assembly elections. The party may benefit from its strong hold in rural areas in future elections.
