Pudecherry Assembly Election 2026: Actor Vijay’s party TVK will contest alone in Puducherry, fields candidates on all seats.

Prominent candidates include V. Saminathan (Lospet), KAU Asan (Karaikal South), L. Periyasamy (Nettapakkam), J. Prakash Kumar (Muthialpet), N. Dhanavelu (Bahour), VJ Chandran (Raj Bhavan), S. Shiva (Upalam), S. Sasibalan (Ozhukarai), and S. Kumaravelu(Ariankuppam).
Talking about the previous elections, in 2021, AINRC became the largest party which got 10 seats, followed by DMK, BJP and Congress which got 6 seats each. The voting percentage that year was a total of 84.8%. At the same time, in 2016, Congress had won majority. Congress had got 15 seats and AINRC had got 8 seats. The voting percentage that year was 83.6%.
Earlier this month, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay said that his party will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections alone. Speaking at an Iftar event in Mahabalipuram, he dismissed speculations of an alliance.
Meanwhile, BJP had released the list of its 9 candidates on March 21, including A. Namasivayam – Mannadipet, E. Theeppanthan – Ossudu (SC), PML Kalyanasundaram – Kalapet, VP Ramalingam – Raj Bhavan, A. Johnkumar – Mudaliarpet, Emblem R. Selvam – Manaveli, GNS Rajasekharan – Thirunallar, A. Dination – Contains the name of month. On the other hand, independent MLA from Ozhukarai seat M. Shivshankar has joined Congress. He had won from this seat in 2021. This decision has come before the 2026 elections.
The Union Territory will go to polls on April 9 and counting of votes will take place on May 9.
