Puducherry Elections: Congress and BJP workers clash at Thirukannur polling station, police lathi charge
Puducherry. Police had to resort to lathi charge to break up a clash between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at a polling station in Thirukannur of Mannadipet assembly constituency in Puducherry. The main contest in Mannadipet assembly constituency is between BJP and Congress. Here Home Minister A. Namashivayam is clashing with former Congress Vice President Selvam.
A large number of BJP workers gathered at the polling booth at the Government Higher Secondary School in Thirukannur. After this, Congress workers who reached there questioned his presence and argued that only voters are allowed to be present inside the polling station.
After this, an altercation started between the two groups, which later turned into a violent clash. The police had to intervene and resort to lathi charge to drive away both the groups from there. A large number of police forces have been deployed in the area.
