‘I was punished for being a Hindu, my ticket was cancelled’, Nisha Chatterjee’s big allegation on Humayun Kabir’s decision

Nisha Chatterjee: A major controversy has come to light in the Janata Unnayan Party (JUP), which started just before the upcoming 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal. Within just 24 hours of the party’s launch, Humayun Kabir has withdrawn the ticket of his own party’s declared candidate Nisha Chatterjee. After this Nisha Chatterjee alleged that she was targeted just because she was a Hindu.

Humayun Kabir came into limelight when he announced the laying of the foundation of Babri Masjid in Murshidabad on 6 December. When politics heated up over this entire incident, TMC showed him the way out of the party.

First ticket to Nisha Chatterjee, then canceled

After being thrown out of TMC, Humayun announced his new party Janata Unnayan Party and announced to contest the Bengal elections with full strength. Humayun had also announced to give ticket to Nisha Chatterjee. But later retracted their decision and canceled the ticket. Now social media influencer and businesswoman Nisha Chatterjee has launched a scathing attack on Janata Unnayan Party and its chief Humayun Kabir. Nisha says that the party deliberately removed her from the candidate list and the real reason behind this is her being a Hindu.

Humayun Kabir had launched his new party Janata Unnayan Party on Monday and on the same day Nisha Chatterjee was declared the candidate from Kolkata’s prestigious Ballygunge seat for the 2026 assembly elections. But within 24 hours the party leadership reversed this decision.

For what reason was the candidature cancelled?

Humayun Kabir cited some of Nisha Chatterjee’s social media videos as the reason behind canceling her candidature. The party claims that the viral reels are a ‘sacred institution’ are not in accordance with. However, Nisha Chatterjee rejected these allegations outright and challenged the party leadership that if any video is obscene then it should be made public. He raised the question that if the party had objections to his social media content then why his background was not checked before declaring him a candidate.

Allegation of conspiracy to defame character

Nisha Chatterjee alleged that a conspiracy of character assassination was being hatched against her and social media They are being harassed socially. He said that the secular image of the party was just a show and in reality he was targeted on the basis of religious identity. He also reminded that earlier Babri Masjid Despite having supported the party’s stand on the issue, she was shown the door.
