New Delhi : Oman Cricket on Tuesday announced a squad of 15 players, in which experienced opener Jatinder Singh will lead the team. This will be Oman’s fourth participation in the tournament. This team includes four new faces: Sufiyan Yousuf, Zikariya Islam, Faisal Shah and Nadeem Khan. At the same time, many experienced players like former captain Zeeshan Maqsood, Khawar Ali, Bilal Khan, Faiyaz Butt and Kaleemullah have been dropped from the team.
Oman captain Jatinder Singh
Jatinder Singh was born in 1989 in Ludhiana, Punjab. He made his T20 International debut for Oman in 2015 and made his ODI debut in April 2019 after Oman gained ODI status. Jatinder, who did not play in the last edition, will captain the national team in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. However, veteran Aamir Kaleem has not been included in the team despite his good performances recently.
Nine half-centuries in the name of Jatinder
Jatinder Singh has scored the most T20I runs for his team and is the most experienced player in the team. Many changes have been made in the 15-member team after the Asia Cup. Jatinder has scored 1605 runs in 72 matches at an average of 24.69 and strike-rate of 120.58, including nine half-centuries.
Oman’s place in Group B
Oman have been placed in Group B, where they face Sri Lanka, Australia, Zimbabwe, and Ireland. Oman will make its debut on 9 February against Zimbabwe. Wicketkeeper-batsman Vinayak Shukla has been selected as the vice-captain of the team. Compared to the Asia Cup team, this time five players have been changed, in which new players have also been included while retaining the experienced players.
Aamir Kaleem’s exit from the team
Experienced all-rounder Aamir Kaleem, who scored two important half-centuries in the Asia Cup and took part in the T20 World Cup Qualifier, has not been included in the squad this time. The 43-year-old Kaleem performed well but still missed the World Cup campaign.
