Punjab: Case of sacrilege in Gurudwara of Patiala, 6 students detained and interrogation continues.
A serious and sensitive incident related to Guru Granth Sahib has come to light in Gurdwara Singh Sabha located in Sanaur village of Patiala. An atmosphere of sadness and anger has been created in the area after a torn page of Guru Granth Sahib was found here. In this case, the police have detained six readers associated with ‘Akhand Path Sahib’ and started questioning them.
According to the police, Akhand Path Sahib was organized in the village on the occasion of the martyrdom day of the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh. For this religious event, the sacred copy of Guru Granth Sahib was taken from Gurdwara Singh Sabha to a common place in the village. When Guru Granth Sahib was brought back to the Gurudwara after the Bhog ceremony on Sunday (December 28). So the members of the Gurudwara Management Committee saw that one of its pages was torn.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the Gurudwara management immediately informed the police. Police reached the spot and detained six readers involved in Akhand Path for questioning. Police say that considering the seriousness of the matter, investigation is being done from every aspect.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC) member Surjit Singh Gadhi also reached the Gurudwara. He told that when the copy of Guru Granth Sahib was brought back, one page was found torn. Which was kept hidden under the cloth. Describing this incident as extremely tragic, he has demanded a fair and thorough investigation from the police.
Surjit Singh Garhi said that the sentiments of the Sikh community have been hurt by this incident and there is deep sorrow and anger among the people. He has demanded strict action against the culprits. Police have assured that the truth will be revealed after investigation.
