Punjab: CM Mann converted paper promises into reality, released Rs 4683.94 crore for social security schemes – Keep an eye on every movement of the media world.
Punjab News: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is continuously implementing people-friendly policies for the welfare of every section of the society. Several historic initiatives have been taken during the year 2025 (FY 2025-26) to ensure social and economic security of elderly, women, children and persons with disabilities. This information was given by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur.
He informed that a budget provision of Rs 6175 crore has been made during the year 2025 under social security schemes, out of which till November 2025, an amount of Rs 4683.94 crore has been released under old age pension and other financial assistance schemes.
He said that at present 35 lakh 29 thousand 216 beneficiaries are receiving continuous financial assistance, which shows the commitment of the Punjab Government towards creating a strong social safety net.
Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that the Punjab Government is working with determination to root out child beggary from the state. For this purpose, Project Jeevanjot has been started by the Social Security Department, under which special raids are conducted in all the districts of the state in the second week of every month.
He said that Project Jeevanjot 2.0 has been implemented to stop child trafficking and identify persons involved in child begging, which has made this campaign more strict and effective. So far, concrete steps have been taken for the education and rehabilitation of 766 children by rescuing them from begging.
The Cabinet Minister said that the government is working seriously to eliminate the social evil of child marriage. During the year 2025, 64 child marriages have been stopped in time. He said that 2076 Child Marriage Prohibition Officers nominated across the state are playing an important role in this campaign.
Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, the safety of school going children is the priority of the government. During the last four months, 2385 school buses were inspected, out of which challans were issued against 404 buses and 2 buses were seized for not meeting the safety standards.
He said that Punjab has become the first state in the country to implement the proceedings of Punjab Assembly in sign language. With this initiative, people unable to speak and hear will be able to join the democratic process. For this, 1 sign language interpreter, 42 special educators and 48 translators have been empaneled.
Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that free travel facility is being provided to blind persons and half fare to disabled persons. A budget of Rs 350 lakh has been kept for this scheme during the financial year 2025-26, out of which Rs 3.45 crore has been spent so far. He informed that one stop centers are established in all the districts of the state, where five types of free services including medical, legal, police assistance, counseling and safe accommodation are provided to the violence affected women. Till November 2025, 5121 women have availed these services.

Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that all the women of the state are being provided free travel facility in government buses. Every month about 1.20 crore women are availing the benefits of this scheme. Rs 450 crore has been spent on this till November 2025.
He informed that 3 crore 68 lakh 72 thousand 550 sanitary pads have been distributed free of cost to 13 lakh 65 thousand needy women through more than 27,000 Anganwadi centres.

An amount of Rs 26.06 crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of 69,110 pregnant and lactating women beneficiaries through DBT during the current financial year. A target has been set by the government to cover 1.14 lakh beneficiaries. Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that 5 working women hostels will be built in Mohali, Jalandhar and Amritsar at a cost of about Rs 150 crore, the construction of which is targeted to be completed by 2026.
