CM Mann released the report card of education revolution, said- government schools should become models

Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann presented a detailed four-year report card of the state’s ‘education revolution’ under the series ‘Fantastic Four Years Bhagwant Mann De Naal’. In this report, the reforms, investments and achievements made in the education sector have been highlighted.

Describing education as the backbone of the state’s development, the Chief Minister said that due to continuous reforms, government schools are being transformed into modern and quality institutions. He said that Punjab has performed better in the national level assessment and there has also been significant improvement in educational results.

Highlighted the increasing expenditure on education

Highlighting the increasing expenditure on education by the state government, he said that the education budget in the year 2021-22 was Rs 12,657 crore, which has been increased to Rs 19,279 crore in 2026-27. This increase reflects the priority being given to the education sector. He said that this report card is part of the accountability process of the government, under which performance reports have been issued in other areas also.

Facilities like private schools are available

The Chief Minister said that now facilities like private schools are being provided in government schools. This will provide better options to parents. He said that from April 1, information about absence of students and leave of teachers will also be given to parents, which will ensure transparency and accountability.

Enumerated Achievements

Referring to the achievements in the education sector, he said that Punjab has secured the top position in the National Achievement Survey-2024. Apart from this, in recent years 740 students have passed JEE and 1284 have passed NEET exam. The performance of students of government schools has been better than the national average.

118 ‘Schools of Eminence’ established

Talking about infrastructural development, the Chief Minister said that 118 ‘Schools of Eminence’ are being established in the state, out of which 60 have already started. In these schools, students are being given education according to their interest and ability. About 24 lakh parents participated in the Mega PTM organized for the first time.

Free coaching and transportation services to students

Free uniforms, coaching and transportation services have also been started for the convenience of the students. Free bus service has been started especially for girls, from which thousands of girl students are benefiting. Along with this, 14,525 teachers have been recruited and 12,316 employees have been regularized from April 2022.

Special attention also on training of teachers

Special attention has also been given to the training of teachers. Many teachers and officers have been sent for training to institutes like Singapore, Finland and IIM Ahmedabad. Through this, efforts are being made to improve the quality of teaching.

Emphasis on strengthening infrastructure

Work has been done on a large scale to strengthen the infrastructure of schools. Facilities like new classrooms, labs, play grounds, separate toilets and high-speed Wi-Fi have been provided. Apart from this, thousands of employees have been appointed for security and maintenance.

Business Blaster Scheme launched

‘Business Blaster’ scheme has been started to promote innovation, under which students have earned income worth crores of rupees from their projects. Also, entrepreneurship has been included as a subject in class 11th, so that students can become employers in the future.

Also digitized Punjabi literature

Many steps have also been taken in the field of higher education. The state has introduced ‘Digital Open University Policy-2026’ and plans have been made to open new colleges. Apart from this, Punjabi literature is also being digitized to promote language and culture. The Chief Minister said that these efforts to improve education are important steps towards strengthening the future of the state and its positive results will be more clearly visible in the coming times.
