Punjab FC and Roundglass Hockey to plant trees for each goal scored

Punjab FC (PFC) and Roundglass Hockey Academy will partner with Roundglass Foundation for its groundbreaking Goals2Trees Campaign and contribute to real environmental action.

Under this campaign, for every goal scored by PFC and Roundglass Hockey Academy teams Roundglass Foundation will plant 500 trees in Punjab.

Goals2Trees campaign aims to create awareness about the environment and sustainability amongst sportspersons and fans.

Roundglass Foundation, through its flagship Billion Tree Project, is on a journey to plant 1 billion trees. It has already planted 2.6 million native trees, creating over 1,400 mini forests and sequestering approximately 35,000 tons of carbon.

The Project is reviving local biodiversity, replenishing water tables, and improving air quality while generating sustainable livelihoods for local communities. More than 13,000 jobs have been created under the government’s MGNREGA scheme through the Foundation’s extensive tree-planting efforts.

Nikolaos Topoliatis, Football Director of Punjab FC, added, “Football is a sport and a catalyst for social change around the world. I am happy that Punjab FC has this opportunity to create real change on the ground by increasing the green cover of Punjab and improving its environment. This campaign will provide extra motivation to the team and inspire the players to perform better.”

Rajinder Singh Sr, Assistant Technical Lead, Roundglass Hockey Academy welcomed this initiative to utilize team sports like hockey and football to address environmental challenges in Punjab.

“This campaign brings together the core values of hockey – community, and teamwork – to overcome urgent environmental distress in the state. Our teams are all raring to go and play extra hard for Punjab, its land, and its people,” said Rajinder.

Roundglass Hockey Academy teams recently won the 2nd Hockey India Junior Men and Sub Junior Women Academy Championship 2024.

While Punjab FC have already started their ISL campaign winning both their matches and scoring four goals, Roundglass Punjab Hockey Academy teams will be next competing in different age group tournaments in the coming days.
