Punjab gets gift of 1,279 new buses, know how the journey of common people will change
Punjab News: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has taken a big step towards strengthening the public transport system of the state. With the wide expansion of government bus services, passengers are going to get better, safe and economical travel facilities in urban and rural areas. The government has decided to include 1,279 new buses in its fleet, which will see a major change in the transport system of the state.
How many buses are currently operating?
At present, a total of 2,267 buses are operating under the Punjab Government, out of which 1,119 buses are running under PUNBUS. Under the new scheme, along with increasing the number of buses, special attention has also been paid to route coverage and quality of service. The government has decided to purchase buses through both direct purchase and kilometer scheme, so that the needs can be met with financial balance.
796 buses will be purchased
Under this scheme, 796 buses will be purchased directly, while 483 buses will be included under the kilometer scheme. This includes 696 ordinary buses and 100 midi buses. PUNBUS will be given 387 ordinary buses, while PRTC will get 309 ordinary buses. Apart from this, 100 midi buses will be added to the PRTC fleet, which will prove to be more useful in congested urban areas and rural roads.
Equipped with modern safety standards
The new buses will be equipped with modern safety standards. These will have facilities like GPS, CCTV, fire detection system, LED lights and emergency signals. Arrangements for easy climbing have also been made for disabled passengers. Keeping the environment in mind, buses of Bharat Stage-6 standards will be included, which will reduce pollution.
This step of the government will make the everyday movement of common people easier by strengthening public transport. Access to education, health and employment will be easier and people’s trust in government bus services will be strengthened.
