Punjab government starts ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme, 40 lakh families will get free ration
Chandigarh: The Punjab government has taken a historic step to strengthen food and nutrition security in the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today announced the launch of ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme.
Under this scheme, free food kits will be provided to 40 lakh families every quarter from the month of April. These kits will be separate and additional from the wheat available under the National Food Security Act.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the farmers of Punjab rescued the country from the food crisis and fed the country. Even today many families in the state struggle for livelihood. Keeping this in mind, the government has started the ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme. He stressed that providing nutritious food to every child is not just a promise but a moral responsibility.
What will be in the food kit?
Each food kit will contain for monthly consumption:
- 2 kg pulses
- 2 kg sugar
- 1 kg salt
- 200 grams turmeric powder
- 1 liter mustard oil
All these materials will be given separately apart from the wheat available under the National Food Security Act.
Markfed will be the nodal agency
The Chief Minister said that Markfed will be the nodal agency of this scheme. The Food and Civil Supplies Department will supply these kits free of cost. The government has prepared complete arrangements for smooth distribution. The distribution of these kits will start every quarter from April. There is no compromise on quality. The Chief Minister clearly said that there will be strict quality check of every material given in the kit.
Strict action will be taken against any complaint of poor quality or irregular supply. He assured that quality will never be compromised.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that his government is expert in raising resources for public welfare schemes and running them honestly. In the coming budget also, more public welfare measures will be taken in the interest of every section of the society. ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme is a symbol of the Punjab Government’s commitment towards food security and nutrition.
