Young man caught taking drugs in crematorium! Big success of Punjab government’s ‘war against drugs’ campaign
Punjab News: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has said that the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign being run by the state government has got another major success. Gurkirat Singh, a resident of Kalanaur in Gurdaspur district, was caught allegedly intoxicating inside the crematorium. The police took immediate action and took him into custody.
The accused had political connections
Cheema said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused has links with the Congress Party. Some of his photographs have also surfaced, in which he is seen with Congress Party leaders. He said that it is clear that due to some political patronage in earlier times, the drug problem increased in Punjab.
AAP is taking concrete steps
The Finance Minister said that during the earlier Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress governments in the state, the drug problem took a serious form. Now the present government is taking concrete steps to root out this problem. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government is continuously taking strict action against drug smugglers. As a result, many smugglers are either fleeing Punjab or ending up behind bars.
The people of Punjab themselves are openly supporting the campaign.
The aim of the government is not only to take action but also to treat those who are addicted to drugs and bring them back into the mainstream of society. Cheema said that the people of Punjab are openly supporting this campaign. This campaign has now taken the form of a mass movement. A large number of people are joining Aam Aadmi Party after being influenced by the policies of the government. The aim of the government is to make Punjab completely drug free and to give a secure future to the youth.
