Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer wants to win the Indian Premier League 2026, and he is focusing on building strong bonds off the field ahead of the new season. Speaking at the franchise’s jersey unveiling event in Mohali, Iyer highlighted the importance of team bonding at the start of the league. “We live as a family in the IPL and get to spend a lot of time together. The more time we spend together, the better we know each other. Now is the time to build bonds,” Iyer said.
“We play FIFA and other games during our spare time. The planning for the games happens a day or two before the contest, but bonding off the field helps us get better as a franchise,” he added.
Punjab Kings will play their first match of the 19th season against the Gujarat Titans on March 31 at home.
Iyer is ready for the challenge despite tough matches from start to finish.
“Expectations are high, but we are ready for the challenge. We will have to win every time we step on the field. I am focusing on winning the trophy,” he mentioned.
Iyer opened up about his injuries. “It is not easy to return and perform after an injury. I lost seven kilos after a nasty injury in Australia, and a lot of effort was needed to gain the weight back. But I love challenges, and I am glad that I was able to achieve what I wanted. I am proud to represent the team,” he revealed.
Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh opined on playing in front of the home fans in IPL. “It is fun when you play in front of your fans. It is a privilege when you feel pressure. We will try to win home matches this year,” Arshdeep said.
He credited the team management for backing him early in his career. “The journey with Punjab Kings has been amazing. When I started playing for the franchise, they supported me and backed my potential. They trusted me when no other franchise did. I want to be a part of the franchise for a long time. I am looking forward to winning trophies with Punjab Kings,” he added.
