Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Health Scheme becomes Sahara, these patients are getting treatment without financial burden

Punjab News: On the special occasion of World Hypertension Day, a very relieving news is coming out from Punjab. The Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, run by the Bhagwant Mann government of the state, has become a big support for the patients suffering from high blood pressure and the dangerous diseases caused by it. In today’s time, when this disease is spreading rapidly among people of all ages, this government scheme is providing timely treatment to thousands of families of Punjab and is also saving their household budget from collapse. This scheme has brought a big change in the health system by eliminating the fear of huge hospital bills.

Silent killer attacks every age group

In the medical world, doctors often call hypertension the ‘silent killer’. The biggest reason for this is that this disease attacks the body secretly without any major symptoms or clear warning. If it is not taken care of on time, it becomes the cause of fatal problems like stroke, heart failure or kidney failure. Today, patients of all ages are seen suffering from this disease in the hospitals of Punjab. At some places, elderly people are seen waiting for their test reports, while at other places women are seen carrying medicine slips in their purses. The most worrying thing is that now even the youth are increasingly becoming victims of this disease.

WHO warning and figures of Punjab

According to the report of the World Health Organization i.e. WHO, the burden of high blood pressure is increasing very rapidly in India. Bad eating habits, mental stress, tobacco consumption, lack of physical exercise and deteriorating lifestyle are the biggest reasons for this. Data from the Punjab State Health Agency shows that people in the age group of 40 to 80 years are most affected by it in the state. Even elderly patients up to 94 years of age have been recorded in Gurdaspur and up to 98 years in SAS Nagar, which shows how widespread this disease is among the elderly. In districts like Patiala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar and Faridkot, both men and women are reaching hospitals in large numbers. This problem is seen more in women between 50 to 77 years of age in Amritsar and Ludhiana.

New trend of increasing hypertension among youth

Dr. Saurabh Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Cardiology, Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, says that high blood pressure is no longer a disease of only the elderly. Modern lifestyle has created new health challenges for people of all ages. In today’s time, cases of hypertension have started appearing in large numbers among teenagers and youth of 20 to 30 years of age. The main reasons for this are mental stress, staying awake till late night, eating junk food and not exercising. According to doctors, now complications like stroke and heart attack are being seen more frequently in young people than in the elderly.

Great relief from financial fear

Amidst this serious health crisis, Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana has proved to be a true help for the patients. Dr. Sharma says that the biggest feature of this scheme is that it prevents patients from postponing treatment due to fear of money. It was often seen that when a patient’s blood pressure suddenly increased, the family members made the mistake of keeping the patient at home due to fear of the expenses of private hospitals. In a hypertension emergency, even a slight delay in treatment can be the difference between life and death. Now under this scheme, the government is bearing the entire cost of stroke and serious kidney diseases, due to which the patients are able to get the right treatment on time.

New way to live with self-respect

According to health officials of Punjab, the real objective of this scheme is not just to provide free medicines but to save the life of the patient at the right time. This health card has become a strong shield for middle class families, pensioners and common government employees. The biggest success of this scheme on this World Hypertension Day is not just in the figures of free treatment, but in the respect and trust that it has given to the citizens of Punjab. Now no poor or middle class family is forced to see their patient suffering due to lack of money, rather they are going directly to the hospital and getting their treatment done without any fear.
