Second phase of ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign begins in Punjab, Kejriwal-Mann inaugurated it
Punjab News: Aam Aadmi Party government starts the second phase of ‘War on Drugs’ campaign to make Punjab drug free. This campaign is launched by AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The aim of the government is to free Punjab from drugs and make it “Rangla Punjab” again.
First phase successful, now public participation increases
Arvind Kejriwal says that the first phase of the campaign is completely successful. Now in the second phase the public is directly involved. From 10 to 25 January, a padayatra is taken out in every village and ward of Punjab, so that people unite against drug addiction and come forward openly.

Formation of Village Defense Committee
The government forms Village Defense Committee in every village and ward. Local youth and people are included in these committees. Till now about 1.5 lakh volunteers have joined this campaign. These people send information about drug sellers in their village to the government.
Campaign connects with mobile app and missed call
Government launches a mobile app for Village Defense Committee members. Information related to drug trafficking is given through this app. The identity of the person giving the information is kept completely confidential. Apart from this, number 9899100002 is issued, on which anyone can join this campaign by giving a missed call.
Big action against drug smugglers
Arvind Kejriwal says that after the formation of AAP government, till now more than 28 thousand cases have been registered and about 42 thousand drug smugglers have been caught. Big smugglers are also included in these. The government runs bulldozers on the illegal properties of drug smugglers, which increases public confidence.
Big smuggler in jail for the first time
Kejriwal says that the big smugglers whose names earlier people were afraid to take, are today in jail. This strengthens public confidence in the government and people start openly giving information against drugs.
Anti-drone system to stop drug abuse
In Punjab, drugs come from Pakistan border through drones. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann says that without waiting for the Centre, the Punjab government installs the anti-drone system with its own money. Now by catching drones, drugs are stopped before they reach Punjab.

Treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts
The government not only takes action against smugglers, but also pays attention to the treatment of drug victims. The condition of de-addiction and rehabilitation centers is improved. The number of beds is increased from 1500 to 5000. Treatment is completely free and patients get better facilities.
Drug addicts are not criminals, they are patients.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann says that drug addicts are not criminals but patients. The society should not despise them but support them. The members of the Village Defense Committee convince such youth and take them to the treatment and rehabilitation centre.
People’s movement becomes ‘war against drugs’
Bhagwant Mann explains that this campaign is not just a police action but a people’s movement. Unless the society itself stands against drug addiction, drug addiction cannot be eradicated. Every citizen has to become the watchman of his village.
Accusations on previous governments
Kejriwal and Mann allege that drug smugglers used to get protection during the Akali Dal and Congress governments. Drugs were promoted for vote bank and power. “AAP” government is the first government which honestly fights against drugs.
