Punjab News: Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann today said that Punjab will emerge as a major hub in the aviation sector in the times to come, as the state government is making huge efforts to give flight to the dreams of the youth by providing them affordable and world-class training as per the needs of the aviation industry.
While interacting with the trainee pilots and aircraft engineers here today, the Chief Minister said that he has come to interact with all the students taking training from this prestigious institute. He said that he was extremely happy to participate in the discussion session with 32 trainee pilots of Patiala Flying Club and 72 students of Patiala Aircraft Maintenance Engineering College.
The Chief Minister said that most of the 32 trainee pilots are the first generation of their families to enter the aviation sector. He told that while in private institutes it costs Rs 40 to 45 lakh to become a commercial pilot, in Patiala Flying Club about 50 percent subsidy is given, due to which the fees comes down to Rs 22 to 25 lakh.
The Chief Minister said that with the reduction in fees by about Rs 20 lakh, now shopkeepers, teachers, farmers, clerks and youth from ordinary families can also dream of becoming pilots.

The Chief Minister informed that an ‘Aviation Museum’ is being set up at the Patiala Aviation Complex at a cost of Rs 7 crore. MiG aircraft, second generation helicopters, simulators and aviation heritage will be displayed in this museum, which will provide valuable information to the students and general public. Its objective is to motivate school students and youth for aviation sector.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also launched the new website of the Civil Aviation Department, dca.punjab.gov.in.
The Chief Minister said that the objective of Patiala State Aviation Council, Punjab is to give every child an opportunity to fulfill the dream of flying in the sky. He said that for decades, pilot training was limited only to the very rich, but with the help and subsidies of the government, these barriers have been eliminated through the Patiala Flying Club.
The Chief Minister informed that the Patiala Flying Club was established in the year 1965 and is spread over 253 acres, making it one of the largest aviation training complexes in India.

The Chief Minister said that the Patiala Flying Club is ranked seventh in the country and currently the club operates seven training aircraft, including five single-engine aircraft, two multi-engine aircraft and one Tecnam P2006T, purchased from Italy for Rs 5 crore. He said that night landing facility at Patiala Airfield and training experience at Amritsar International Airport is also provided here.
The Chief Minister said that career in aviation sector is not limited to becoming a pilot only. Many students want to work in this field, but it is not necessary to become a pilot. He said the Punjab government is providing affordable technical education at Patiala Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) College, which offers India’s most affordable AME and BSc (Hons.) programmes.

The Chief Minister said that the total fee for the 3-year B.Sc. (Hons.) and 3-year DGCA-recognized AME program is only Rs 3 lakh, whereas the fee for the same course in other states ranges from Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakh. He said that 33 percent seats are reserved for SC and BC students, so that children from normal families can also get opportunities in this field.

The Chief Minister proudly said that more than 4,000 professionals trained from Patiala Flying Club and College are today working in big companies, earning an average starting salary of Rs 1.5 lakh per month.

He said that major airlines like IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet, general aviation companies like Tecnam, Boeing and VSR Aviation, charter companies, MRO institutes and other flying clubs are providing employment to these students, where they also work as flight instructors.
The Chief Minister said that the aim of his government is to make the youth not job seekers but job providers. He said that the need of the hour is to build a progressive and prosperous Punjab with the active participation of youth.
