Punjab Vets defer October 21statewide dharnas on assurance of PSAH

MOHALI: With the active intervention of Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and dairy development Punjab and his assurance to expeditiously resolve the issue of restoration of pay parity of Veterinary Officers with medical officers, the executive of ‘Joint Action Committee of Vets for pay parity ‘, here today held a meeting at Mohali and decided to defer the state wide dharnas slated for 21st October at all district Veterinary Polyclinics of State.

All treatment , elective surgeries, testing /collection of blood and other samples at Veterinary Polyclinics were proposed to be suspended for the day.

Besides, the JAC has also been invited for a meeting with the Cabinet Sub-committee to discuss the demands of Veterinary officers on October 22, at Punjab Bhawan Chandigarh. Dr Gurcharan Singh, Convenor JAC lamented that the government had been employing delaying tactics due to which the whole cadre of Vets was deeply anguished and demanded that their over four decades old parity with medicos be restored immediately. He said that keeping in view the interests of livestock farmers, they had decided to support the Foot and Mouth Disease vaccination drive which will be kicked off by the Punjab Animal Husbandry Minister Sh Gurmeet Singh Khudian on 21st October. Dr Gurcharan called upon the Veterinarians of the state to complete the FMD vaccination on war footing to protect the livestock of the state from the dreaded infectious disease.

It’s pertinent to mention here that the government had earlier scheduled the meeting of JAC with Finance Minister on September 17, which was again rescheduled with Ministers’ Sub Committee on September 27 and again postponed to October 22.

He added, “it is very unfortunate on the part of the incumbent government for ignoring genuine demand of Vets of Punjab. Our faith in the present government has started waning because it is even delaying the rectification of aberrations of previous Congress government”.

He further said that the Veterinarians, are an educated class of professionals who are dedicated to welfare of farmers of the state, and wanted their issues to be resolved on priority through table talks, but if the government forced them to take stringent steps, they wouldn’t hesitate to intensify their agitation in the coming days.

Prominent among others present in the meeting were Convenor JAC Dr Gurcharan Singh, Co-convenors Dr Puneet Malhotra, Dr Abdul Majid, Dr Gurdeep Singh and Dr Harmandeep Singh, Dr Akshpreet , Dr Parshotam Singh, Dr Tejinder Singh, Dr Sukhraj Bal, Dr Dilmanpreet and Dr Sahil Bhinder.
