Punjab Vigilance SSP Lakhbir Singh Suspended for Unauthorized Interference; Department Issues Official Clarification
Chandigarh/Amritsar, December 27, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
The Punjab Vigilance Department on Friday issued an official statement clarifying the circumstances that led to the suspension of Lakhbir Singh, who was serving as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Vigilance Bureau, Amritsar.
According to the department, an internal complaint was received against the officer, following which appropriate disciplinary action was initiated in accordance with established rules and procedures. Acting on the complaint, the state government placed Lakhbir Singh, PPS, under suspension with immediate effect.
The official statement specified that the suspension was ordered on charges of unauthorized interference in matters outside the officer’s official domain. During the suspension period, his headquarters have been fixed at the office of the Director General of Police Punjab in Chandigarh.
The Vigilance Department further stated that formal disciplinary proceedings have been initiated and the matter is being examined in depth. Authorities emphasized that due process is being followed and that the inquiry will be conducted strictly as per departmental norms.
Earlier, the suspension had triggered widespread speculation, with reports linking the action to an ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in tenders related to development works worth around ₹55 crore in Amritsar’s Ranjit Avenue area. Some unconfirmed reports had also suggested that the action followed a complaint by an IAS officer and hinted at the possible involvement of other influential individuals.
However, the latest official statement shifts the focus squarely to unauthorized interference and internal disciplinary issues, while the Vigilance Department has refrained from commenting on any other alleged aspects at this stage.
Officials said further details, if any, would be shared only after the conclusion of the inquiry.
