Punjab News: With the aim of providing quality treatment and modern medical testing facilities to the common people in medical colleges, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed to immediately release funds worth Rs 68.98 crore for the rejuvenation of major medical colleges of the state.
While presiding over the review meeting of the Medical Education and Research Department here today, the Chief Minister said that the need of the hour is to expand the facilities in these medical colleges, so that people can be ensured better treatment as well as advanced medical testing facilities. He said that it is necessary to equip these colleges with modern and world-class machinery, so that patients can get better services. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann directed the Medical Education Department to immediately release Rs 68.98 crore for upgrading the facilities.

The Chief Minister said that Rs 26.53 crore was given to Government Medical College Amritsar, Rs 28.51 crore to Government Medical College Patiala, Rs 9.43 crore to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) and Rs 4.51 crore will be given to PGI Satellite Centre, Firozpur. He said that these funds would be used for the purchase of modern machines and other equipment as well as for development work in medical colleges. The Chief Minister reiterated that his government is committed to making Punjab a global hub of medical education, which will further boost treatment and medical testing facilities.

The Chief Minister directed that all the work in the medical colleges should be completed in a timely and organized manner, so that health services can be available to the common people at affordable rates. He said that Punjab has a glorious history from which world class doctors have emerged and even today a large number of students are receiving medical education. The Chief Minister said that it is the duty of the state government to provide quality education to medical students, so that they can get comprehensive benefits.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the sole objective of revamping the medical colleges is to ensure easy access to quality health services to the common people.
