Putin Visitor Book Message: Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Rajghat during his visit to India on Friday and paid tribute to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. He offered a Chakra decorated with the colors of the Russian flag at the Samadhi site and bowed his head and paid obeisance to Gandhiji. On this occasion, Putin shared a special message in the visitor’s book, in which he stressed the global contribution of Mahatma Gandhi and the relevance of his ideology. Putin said that Russia and India are still supporting the same principles which were envisioned by Gandhiji.

When Russian President Vladimir Putin reached Rajghat, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh welcomed him and informed him about the protocol. Putin first offered a disc decorated with the colors of the Russian flag to the mausoleum of Mahatma Gandhi and paid homage by bowing his head respectfully. After this, following the Indian tradition, he also offered rose petals at the Samadhi and paid obeisance.
This visit to Rajghat is a mandatory protocol for foreign heads of state in India, which reflects the values and respect of India. During this time, a sense of seriousness and respect was clearly visible on Putin’s face, which shows the global influence of Gandhiji.
Gandhiji’s ideology and Putin’s message
After paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, President Putin wrote a special message in the visitor’s book, which caught the attention of the entire world. He described Gandhiji as ‘one of the founders of the modern Indian nation’ and described him as a great and humanitarian.

Putin wrote that Gandhiji made invaluable contribution in establishing peace in the world. He stressed that Gandhiji’s ideology of freedom, morality and humanity is as relevant today as it was in his time. Putin also reminded that Gandhiji had envisioned a new, more just and multipolar world order and the same order is taking shape today. He also referred to the correspondence between Russian philosopher Leo Tolstoy and Gandhiji, which discussed a world based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and non-domination.

Foundation of India-Russia partnership
At the end of his message, President Putin also clarified the basis of India-Russia partnership. He stressed that today Russia and India are also supporting the same principles (equality, mutual respect) at the international level.

His statement comes just ahead of the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, which shows that relations between the two countries are not just strategic or economic, but also based on shared moral and philosophical principles.
