Amidst the increasing tension in the Middle East, Russian President Vladimir Putin is seen playing an active diplomatic role. According to sources, the Kremlin has said that Putin will convey to Iran the growing concerns of the leaders of Gulf countries regarding the recent attacks on regional energy and civilian infrastructure. Russia says their aim is to reduce tension in the region.
Let us tell you, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Putin will make every possible effort to control the situation and prevent the conflict from spreading further. He said that due to recent attacks and retaliatory actions in West Asia, the situation is becoming serious and many Arab countries have fallen prey to it.
Let us tell you, on Monday, Putin spoke on telephone with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman. Both leaders expressed concern over the danger of geographical expansion of the conflict. According to the Kremlin, the Saudi leadership recognized that Russia’s balanced relations with Iran and the Gulf countries give it an opportunity to play a positive role in bringing stability.
Apart from this, Putin also talked to Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Both sides expressed apprehension that if the conflict escalates further, third countries may also get involved. It was also hoped that Iran’s retaliatory action would not harm the citizens and vital infrastructure of neighboring countries.
The latest attacks have hit Saudi Arabia’s major oil refinery, the UAE’s Fujairah oil facility and Qatar’s Ras Laffan energy hub, sending the global energy market into turmoil. There has been a continuous increase in the prices of Brent crude. In such a situation, this initiative of Russia is being considered important towards reducing regional tension.
