Qatar Accident: Explosion in Ras Laffan Industrial City, 13 people including 12 Indians killed, Embassy releases helpline numbers

A major accident took place in Ras Laffan Industrial City of Qatar on Sunday evening. Here there was a massive explosion and fire in the Barzan local gas supply facility. A total of 13 people lost their lives in this tragic incident, out of which 12 were Indian citizens and one was from Pakistan.

66 people have been injured in this accident. The injured include people from Qatar, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Iran, Tanzania, Nigeria and Nepal. According to officials, all the injured are now in stable condition and are undergoing treatment.

Reason for the accident and official information

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior said that the accident occurred due to a technical fault during operations. Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi clarified that it was just an accident and there was no conspiracy or attack involved. He also assured that this incident will not affect Qatar’s energy exports.

Government company QatarEnergy informed that the explosion occurred when work was being restarted at the Barzan facility. This plant was closed for maintenance since December 2025 and was restarted only two days ago. The company has confirmed that there was no gas leakage of any kind which could pose a threat to the environment or people.

The Indian Embassy in Doha has confirmed the deaths. The Embassy is working closely with the Government of Qatar to provide full assistance to the affected families and to bring back the bodies to India. The Embassy has issued a helpline number and email for assistance so that NRIs can contact.
