QR ticketing facility started in Lucknow Metro from tomorrow, passengers will be able to book tickets from the app sitting at home

The travel system is going to become more modern and convenient for the passengers traveling in Lucknow Metro from Monday. On the lines of Delhi Metro, now QR code based ticketing system is being implemented in Lucknow Metro also, so that passengers will not have to stand in long queues to get tickets. Under this new facility, passengers will be able to book their tickets sitting at home through the official mobile app of Metro and can start their journey directly after reaching the station.

Formal opening from Hazratganj metro station

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) Managing Director Sushil Kumar will formally launch this new system from Hazratganj Metro Station at 10 am on Monday. About 80 thousand passengers travel every day on the North-South Corridor of Lucknow Metro, which extends from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport to Munshipulia. Major stations like Krishnanagar, Singarnagar and Hazratganj of this corridor are the busiest, where passengers often have to wait in long queues to get the token.

Many times passengers have to wait for about half an hour to get tickets at stations like Singarnagar and Krishnanagar. In order to overcome this problem and make travel easier, UPMRC has decided to implement QR code based ticketing system. Under this system, passengers will be able to get QR tickets through mobile app, ticket counter or ticket vending machine.

On booking tickets through the mobile app, passengers will get a digital QR ticket on their phones, which can be scanned at the entry gate of the station. At the same time, paper QR tickets will also be available from ticket counters and vending machines. This ticket can be used by scanning it at the yellow stripe Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gate at both the entry and exit points of the metro station.

Payment facility through UPI

To implement this new facility, the Metro administration has installed new ticket vending machines supporting QR code at all the stations. At least one QR ticket machine and one counter has been arranged at every station. Payment facility through UPI will also be available on these machines, through which passengers will be able to purchase tickets in a cashless manner. Also, the traditional token system will also continue for the time being.

According to the Metro administration, the QR code ticketing system will save time for passengers and make the travel process faster, safer and convenient. This step will prove important in taking Lucknow Metro forward in the direction of digital and smart transportation.
