'Quad Caucus' formed in US Congress ahead of Quad leaders summit

A bipartisan group of US lawmakers on Friday announced the formation of the 'Quad Caucus' in the US Congress. This announcement has been made a day before the start of the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) summit.

US President Joe Biden has invited the leaders of Australia, India and Japan to his residence in Wilmington, Delaware for the Quad summit.

Quad leaders may discuss key initiatives on themes such as infrastructure, maritime security, public-private partnerships, climate, health, critical and emerging technologies, and space during the summit.

Congressmen Ami Bera, Rob Wittman and Senators Tammy Duckworth and Pete Ricketts announced the formation of the Quad Caucus.

“With the Indo-Pacific region becoming increasingly important to global security and economic prosperity, it is essential that the United States continues to strengthen ties with our Quad partners,” Bera said.

He said, “The launch of the Quad Caucus underlines our shared commitment to promote peace, stability and development in the region. By promoting cooperation on key issues such as maritime security, infrastructure and climate, we can ensure a safer and more prosperous future for all.”

“Cooperation between the United States, Japan, India, and Australia is vital to the future stability of the Indo-Pacific,” Wittman said.
