QUAD Foreign Ministers Meet in New Delhi for Strategic Talks on May 26
New Delhi: The QUAD Foreign Ministers Meeting will take place here in New Delhi on May 26 to deliberate on issues related to Indo-Pacific security, stability and cooperation according to The Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) press release.
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will chair the meeting. The visiting dignitaries from the United States, Japan and Australia. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi are set to be in New Delhi between May 23 and 26 to take part in the discussion.
Indo-Pacific Security
During the meeting delegations would pay attention to such issues as Free and Open Indo-Pacific, maritime security, freedom of navigation and a rules-based order, evaluating progress on critical technology, climate resilience and exchanging perspectives on emerging geopolitics tensions, security challenges in the region and broader international developments.
Strategic Importance
The Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting comes at a time of intensifying strategic rivalry in the Indo-Pacific and amid growing global uncertainties due to conflicts in West Asia.
According to experts, the meeting could further boost the collaboration of the four democratic nations in terms of regional security and cooperation.
The meeting will also serve as a precursor to the next Leaders’ Summit of the Quad nations to be held in the near future.
The QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) has four members:
- Australia
- India
- Japan
- United States
Main Objectives of QUAD
The primary focus of this alliance is to support a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
Key initiatives include:
- Ensuring a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific free from coercion.
- Enhancing maritime security and freedom of navigation.
- Collaborating on critical technologies, cybersecurity, and global health.
- Fostering economic cooperation and sustainable infrastructure development.
