Queen Suthida awards gold to Thai women’s ice hockey team after SEA Games victory over the Philippines

Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana awarded gold medals to Thailand’s women’s ice hockey team after they claimed the top prize at the 33rd SEA Games, defeating the Philippines 13–4 in the final.

The championship match, held in Bangkok on Friday, was contested over three 20-minute periods. Thailand dominated throughout, sealing a convincing 13–4 victory to secure the gold medal.

Following the final whistle, Queen Suthida led the medal ceremony, presenting bronze to Singapore, silver to the Philippines, and gold to the host nation, Thailand.

Queen Suthida, 47, married King Maha Vajiralongkorn in 2019. She holds a degree in Communication Arts from Assumption University in Bangkok and previously worked as a flight attendant for Thai Airways. She later joined the Thai military, rising to command the King’s Guard Special Forces unit and attaining the rank of general.

A well-known advocate of ice hockey in Thailand, the queen has played an active role in promoting the sport nationwide. She has also made her mark as an athlete herself, leading the national sailing team to a historic gold medal in the SSL47 keelboat event at the SEA Games, clinching victory with one race remaining.
