Question mark on the captaincy of this IPL player, former champion team yearning for victory

Subramaniam Badrinath Questions Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Captaincy: Former Indian batsman Subramaniam Badrinath has expressed concern about the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad. This happened when his team Chennai Super Kings started the IPL 2026 season with a bad defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals. Exactly a year after their worst ever IPL season (in which they finished at the bottom), the ‘Yellow Army’ has started the current season in a similar manner.

Chennai team is struggling

Batting first, Chennai Super Kings scored a weak score of 127 runs, which Rajasthan Royals achieved in just 12.1 overs. This 5-time champion team has been struggling ever since Gaikwad took over the captaincy in the 2024 season.

When will the losing streak end?

Under Gaikwad’s captaincy, Chennai Super Kings have lost 5 consecutive matches (this trend has been going on since last season), and out of the total 20 matches played under his leadership, the team has won only 8 matches. They failed to qualify for the playoffs in the Indian Premier League 2024. Last season too, they were in trouble with just one win in 5 matches, after which Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
