Questions over unfitness of Babar and Fakhar in T20 World Cup, role of physio under doubt
A new controversy related to T20 World Cup has gained momentum in Pakistan cricket. Serious questions have been raised over the fitness of captain Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman during their inclusion in the team. According to reports, both the players were not fully prepared at the time of selection, due to which fingers are being raised on the selection process and the medical team.
Former fast bowler Aaqib Javed demanded an investigation from the PCB in the press conference, while Dr. Javed Mughal, associated with the board’s medical panel, also expressed doubt over the fitness certification. After the World Cup, Babar’s examination revealed that the injury was more serious, due to which he stayed away from the National T20 Cup. Fakhar was also injured for a long time.
Team physio Cliff Deacon has been accused of ignoring minor injuries and giving the green signal to the players. The selectors say that they picked only players with fitness clearance. The PCB will conduct a thorough investigation, in which if irregularities are found, strict action can be taken. Babar is currently focusing on his recovery at the National Cricket Academy and will take charge of Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL starting on March 26. This case raises big questions on the medical system of Pakistani cricket.
