R Ashwin hails Chennai Super Kings’ new signing after his match-winning spell in BBL
Former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has lauded Hobart Hurricanes skipper Nathan Ellis, who took three wickets and conceded just 30 runs from his four overs against the Melbourne Renegades, leading his franchise to a four-wicket win in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL). Ashwin mentioned that the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) team management would be happy with the performance of the Australian player, who is in impressive form ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026. The veteran highlighted the Aussie pacer’s bowling in the death overs, where he dismissed two batters.
“The men in yellove will be happy with how he’s been shaping up. 4-0-30-3 for Hobart Hurricanes today. Most importantly, 2-0-15-2 at the death, bowling 17 and 20, nailing his yorkers and change of pace. Safe to say two overs of Ellis are locked at the ‘Pauk’ in the death for the summer of 26?”

Ashwin was signed by the Sydney Thunder but the legendary bowler was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a knee injury in Chennai.
Speaking of the BBL match, defending champions Hurricanes registered their second win over the Renegades with a well compiled run chase aided by Matthew Wade.

He smashed three sixes and a four in the final overs to complete the chase with six balls left. Wade was supported by Rehan Ahmed, who posted 23 runs.
Earlier, Josh Brown and Tim Seifert batted aggressively but Ellis fine effort with the ball restricted Melbourne to 162/9.
The win took Hobart to second place in the standings, with four victories and one defeat from five games, while the Renegades are at the bottom of the points table with two losses and one win from three games.
