Rahul Bhat recalls ‘lathi charge’ during Kennedy screening in Kolkata

EntertainmentDirected by Anurag Kashyap, Kennedy is a noir thriller that traces the life of a presumed dead cop who goes through loneliness, violence and moral dilemmas. The film, which is currently streaming on ZEE5, is being loved for its moody story and taut performances.

Rahul Bhat, who plays the title character, described the reaction in Kolkata as particularly overwhelming. Describing the experience, he said, “The response in Kolkata was tremendous. So many people came to watch the film that the situation went out of control, and there was even lathi charge outside the venue. This shows how much excitement and curiosity there was for the film among the audience, the energy was tremendous.”

The actor’s portrayal of Kennedy is known for his control and inner intensity, which matches the serious tone of the film. Thinking more about audience appreciation, Rahul has previously pointed out that for performers, genuine engagement often matters more than commercial metrics. For many actors, audience validation confirms the emotional investment and risks taken during the filmmaking process.

Kennedy delves deeply into the psychological landscape of her central character, and explores themes of redemption, loneliness, and survival in a world without a moral compass. The film’s stylistic treatment and storytelling have helped it garner a following at festivals and among cinephiles.
