Rahul Dravid breaks silence on Rajasthan Royals’ retained players amid Jos Buttler’s snub

Rajasthan Royals have retained Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sandeep Sharma for IPL 2025. Sanju Samson will be their captain in the new season, and his partnership with Jaiswal, Parag, Jurel, Hetmyer, and Sandeep is likely to define the franchise’s performance.

Howeve, Jos Buttler, who has been magnificent for the franchise, was not retained.

Samson, who is the most important player in the team, has been retained for INR 18 crore. Since becoming the skipper in 2021, he has scored 1835 runs in 60 matches at a strike rate of 147.59.

“The last few seasons have been remarkable for the team. We have delivered some memorable performances and created an environment in the dressing room where young players have been groomed to serve Indian cricket for a long time,” Sanju Samson said.

“I wanted to continue the journey with the players we had in the last seasons, but the IPL rules don’t allow that. With a heavy heart, we have parted ways with some of our teammates who were behind the success of the franchise. We will try to buy back some of them in the auction,” he added.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (INR 18 crore), Riyan Parag (INR 14 crore), Dhruv Jurel (INR 14 crore), Shimron Hetmyer (11 crore) and Sandeep Sharma (INR 4 crore) have been rewarded for their performances.

Rahul Dravid, Head Coach, Rajasthan Royals, reacted to his team’s retentions. “Rajasthan Royals have been consistent over the years. We have retained our core, and it was not just about skills. It was about trust and stability, and we wanted to keep ourselves in the best position to go to the IPL 2025 mega auction,” Rahul Dravid said.

He also spoke about the released players. “You can’t keep all the players, and it is important to make tough decisions. We did it with a heavy heart. I would like to thank everyone for their contributions, and hopefully, we will see some of them coming back to the franchise again.”
