Rahul Dravid’s son Anvay got a place in Team India U-19, BCCI expressed great confidence for the Sri Lanka tour.
New Delhi . The new generation of the Dravid family has made its mark at the national level in Indian cricket. Anvay Dravid, younger son of former Indian captain and legendary batsman Rahul Dravid, has been included in India’s Under-19 ODI team for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. The young wicketkeeper-batsman has been rewarded for his consistently excellent performances in domestic age group cricket and this is being considered as the most important milestone in his cricket career so far.
The Junior Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the Under-19 ODI and Multi-Day squads for the tour of Sri Lanka. This tour will start in the first week of July, where the Indian team will play three ODI and two multi-day matches. The selectors have expressed confidence in many young players in preparing the future national team, in which the name of Anvay Dravid is prominent.
17-year-old Anvay Dravid has displayed impressive talent in age group cricket in recent times. His batting as well as wicketkeeping ability attracted the attention of the selectors. He has been included among the two wicketkeepers in the ODI team, which shows the growing confidence of the team management in him. As a young player, this opportunity is considered very important for his development and international level experience.
Anvay has been in the news in recent months for his performances in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. While captaining the Karnataka Under-19 team, he played an important role in taking the team to the knockout stage. During the tournament, he consistently played useful innings and showed composure even in pressure situations. His unbeaten half-century in an important match gave the team a memorable victory, after which the selectors’ eyes got stronger on him.
Even before this, Anvay had performed brilliantly at the Under-16 level and scored a century. His technique, patience and ability to play according to match situations has been praised by cricket experts. This is the reason why he is being counted among the emerging talents of Indian cricket. Cricket experts believe that Anvay has achieved this opportunity on the basis of his hard work and performance along with the cricket heritage of the Dravid family.
This selection is also being considered special because Anvay will still be eligible for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup cycle as per the age limit. The selectors are seeing this tour as an initial step towards preparation for the Under-19 World Cup to be held in 2028. The experience of playing in Sri Lankan conditions will help prepare the young players for international challenges.
The Indian team will leave for Sri Lanka at the end of June and after the limited overs series, longer format matches will be played there. All eyes will be on Anvay Dravid’s performance on this tour. Cricket fans are also curious whether like Rahul Dravid, his son will also be able to make a strong start towards making a long and successful mark in Indian cricket.
