Rahul Gandhi angry at media, made serious allegations on the question of possible ‘privilege’ motion
New Delhi, 12 February. Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday lashed out at a section of media persons when they were asked a question about a possible Privilege Motion against him by the ruling party during the Budget session. Taking a jibe at the journalists, Rahul asked, ‘Have you been given this code word for today?’ He also asked the media to be impartial in their work and maintain the dignity of their profession.
It is noteworthy that Rahul Gandhi, in his address during the discussion on the budget in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, had strongly attacked the Central Government and made many allegations. During his speech, the Congress MP had mentioned the alleged relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some big industrialists. There was a lot of controversy regarding his allegations.
Less likely to bring a privilege motion
Earlier it was being said that the ruling party would bring a privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi. However, till now nothing is clear whether the ruling party is bringing any proposal against him or not. Top sources in the government say that the possibility of a privilege motion is unlikely. The government decided that a Privilege Motion would not be brought against Rahul Gandhi but that certain words/lines of his speech would be expunged from the record of Parliament as they were without evidence.
Rahul asked the journalists – What for today? Is ‘privilege’ the code word?
Meanwhile today, when Rahul Gandhi was going towards his car outside the Parliament complex, some journalists surrounded him to know his reaction on the possible Privilege Motion against him. He was clearly incensed by the question and asked reporters, “Is ‘privilege’ the code word for today? Has this word been given to you for today?”
‘You are responsible people of media, your responsibility is to remain impartial’
Taking a further attack on journalists, Rahul said, “Yesterday the word was ‘certification’, today it is ‘privilege’. You should try to do something impartial. He further said, ‘You are responsible people, you are media people, you have a responsibility to be impartial. You are doing a disservice to this country. Are you not able to recognize this?’
