Congress alleges that the proposed trade deal between India and America is against the interests of Indian farmers. The party is seeing this Mahachoupal as the beginning of a national campaign, whose echoes will be heard in other states like Maharashtra and Rajasthan after Madhya Pradesh. Congress leaders say that this deal is a conspiracy to hand over farming into the hands of corporates. To make farmers aware on this issue and corner the Central Government, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge will be present as key speakers in Bhopal today.

Minute-to-minute program of Rahul and Kharge

Both the top Congress leaders are leaving from Delhi for this Mahachoupal organized in Bhopal. According to the program:

• Mallikarjun Kharge: He will reach Bhopal before Rahul Gandhi, at around 12 noon. He will first hold a meeting with party leaders and review the preparations for the program.
• Rahul Gandhi: They will take off from Delhi at 12 noon and reach Bhopal at around 1 pm. After reaching Bhopal, he will stay in a private hotel where the strategy will be discussed with senior leaders of the state.
• Both the leaders will reach the meeting venue at Jawahar Chowk at around 2 pm and address the huge crowd.

Heavy preparations at Jawahar Chowk: Claim of gathering of 50 thousand people

Congress has put in all its strength to make this program successful. Two big domes have been built at Jawahar Chowk in Bhopal and seating arrangements for about 250 senior leaders have been made on the main stage. State President Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar have claimed that about 50,000 farmers and workers from across the state will participate in this Mahachoupal. The responsibility of mobilizing the crowd has been specifically assigned to Congress MLAs and district presidents. National leaders like Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Kheda will also mark their presence on this platform.

CM Mohan Yadav’s counterattack: ‘Rahul Gandhi should apologize’

Political temperature is high in Madhya Pradesh regarding this Mahachoupal. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav made a direct attack on Rahul Gandhi and said that he is only working to spread confusion among the farmers. The Chief Minister demanded that instead of doing politics in the name of country and faith, Rahul Gandhi should go to Mahakal Temple and apologize.

The government claims that its policies are historic for farmers, which include steps like assistance of over Rs 1500 crore for soybean farmers and Bhavantar Yojana on mustard. CM termed Congress’s performance as ‘dirty mentality’. Giving agreement, he said that this tarnishes the image of the state.
