Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge congratulate Team India on winning gold at Chess Olympiad

New Delhi :�कांCongress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday lauded Team India for winning two gold medals in both men's and women's events. India performed brilliantly at the ongoing International Chess Federation (FIDE) Chess Olympiad in Budapest on Sunday by winning two gold medals in both men's and women's events. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on his official X handle lauded India's men's team for winning the first gold medal in the Open section at the Chess Olympiad.

Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter, “Thrilled to see Team India win its first Gold Medal in the Open Section of the Chess Olympiad. Many congratulations to Gukesh Domraju, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, Pentala Harikrishna, Sreenath Narayanan and their teams. Your remarkable talent, brilliant strategy and dedication have paid off. Wishing you all continued excellence. Your golden win has made the nation extremely proud. Jai Hind.”

Rahul Gandhi also congratulated the women's team and said he was very proud of the champions.

“Double gold for India at the Chess Olympiad! So proud of our champions – Divya Deshmukh, R Vaishali, D Harika, Tania Sachdev, Vantika Agrawal, their captain Abhijeet Kunte and their teams. A truly historic day for India,” Rahul Gandhi wrote, congratulating the women's team.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge lauded the “extraordinary skill, strategic brilliance and unwavering dedication” of India's men's team in the final round of the Chess Olympiad. “History made! Congratulations to Team India on securing their first Gold Medal in the Open Section at the Chess Olympiad! Gukesh Domraju, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, Pentala Harikrishna and Sreenath Narayanan – your extraordinary skill, strategic brilliance and unwavering dedication have given India its rightful place on the podium. Your golden victory has filled the entire nation with pride! May your achievement inspire future generations of Indian chess players,” Kharge wrote on Twitter.

In the final round of the tournament, the Indian men's team of D Gukesh, R Praggnandha, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi and Pentala Harikrishna defeated Slovenia to win the gold medal. D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi's win gave India a 2-0 lead and secured the gold medal. Later in the final round, Praggnandha also won his game and Vidit ended his bout in a draw. India defeated Slovenia 3.5-0.5 to capture the gold medal.

Meanwhile, the Indian women's chess team of Harika Dronavalli, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal and Tania Sachdev also won the gold medal after defeating Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5. Harika Dronavalli, Divya Deshmukh and Vantika Agrawal won their respective matches in the final round. Whereas, R Vaishali drew her match against Ulviya Fataliyeva. (ANI)
