Rahul Gandhi's pain spills over, speaks volumes to Modi government at Manmohan Singh's funeral

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the father of economic reforms, was cremated with state honors at Nigam Bodh Ghat on Saturday (28 December 2024). At the same time, politics has intensified regarding the place of his cremation and the memorial site. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has accused the Central Government of insulting former PM Manmohan Singh regarding his last rites.

“The present government has completely insulted Dr. Manmohan Singh, the great son of Mother India and the first Prime Minister of the Sikh community, by cremating him at Nigam Bodh Ghat today,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a post on Twitter. ''He was the Prime Minister of India for a decade, during his tenure the country became an economic powerhouse and his policies continue to support the poor and backward classes of the country even today.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, 'Till date, respecting the dignity of all former Prime Ministers, their last rites have been performed in authorized mausoleums, so that every person can pay homage without any inconvenience.
