Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of air pollution in Lok Sabha, demanded discussion, said “There should be productive debate instead of blame game”
On Friday, Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of air pollution in the Lok Sabha. Calling it a national health crisis, he demanded a detailed discussion in the House. He said that the issue of pollution is not related to any one state or political party, but is related to the lives of the citizens of the entire country. He appealed that the issue should rise above allegations and counter-allegations and debate for a solution.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that AQI is continuously reaching dangerous levels in many cities including the country’s capital and a long-term action plan of 5 to 10 years should be prepared to solve this problem. He demanded that the Central Government should take concrete steps on pollution control by making coordinated efforts with the states.
Rahul Gandhi demands discussion on pollution in Parliament
Rahul Gandhi demanded a discussion on the issue of pollution in the Lok Sabha and said that there should be a positive debate on it instead of allegations and counter-allegations. Talking to the media on this subject, he said, “I have talked about the pollution of Delhi and many other cities. This is an issue on which all parties can agree that our children…our future is being affected by it. Pollution is harming people, causing diseases, causing difficulty in breathing. I have suggested that we should discuss pollution in the House. Usually the blame game goes on. The parties and the opposition blame each other. But this topic is discussed with consent. Let us talk about the future and discuss how to solve this problem. We will also take the opinion of experts and tell the country that we can jointly work on pollution. Referring to other debates going on in the House, Rahul Gandhi said that there were heated arguments on issues like Vande Mataram and SIR, but pollution is a topic on which there should be productive debate instead of aggressive debate.
Government agreed to discuss
On this demand of Congress, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has said on behalf of the government that the government is fully ready to discuss this issue. He said that the proposal for debate on air pollution has been sent to the Business Advisory Committee. As per the procedure, as soon as the committee decides the time, it will be discussed in detail in the House.
