New Delhi. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has made a scathing attack on the Central Government’s silence on the ongoing crisis in West Asia and the lack of discussion in Parliament. He said that this regional conflict is going to cause huge loss to India’s economy. Rahul Gandhi warned that this crisis is pointing towards a major paradigm shift, which will cause a deep economic shock to the country. Giving the example of the recent fall in the stock market, he said that the market has already felt this impact. Rahul raised the question whether the issue of West Asia is so unimportant that it cannot be discussed? He stressed that public issues like rising fuel prices and economic disaster should be raised on priority in Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged that the recent agreement with America has put the country in a weak position. He claimed that this deal is the result of compulsion or blackmail of the Prime Minister, due to which India’s interests have been compromised. The Congress MP said that the government is avoiding discussion on this issue because if the debate starts, the weak position of the PM and the reasons behind the agreement will come to light. Describing it as a matter of public importance, he demanded that it be discussed first and then other issues can be discussed. According to the opposition, the government is deliberately running away from these sensitive topics.

PM Modi accused of running away from Parliament

Rahul Gandhi also accused the Prime Minister of running away from Parliament. He said that PM Modi will not be able to come to Parliament now. Earlier, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar stressed the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the West Asia crisis. He said in the Lok Sabha on Monday that the safety of Indian citizens living in that area and protecting its national interests is the top priority of the Government of India. America and Israel launched a major military attack on Iran on February 28, in which Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed. The war has so far killed at least 1,230 people in Iran, 397 in Lebanon and 11 in Israel, according to officials.

In his statement on the West Asia conflict in both Houses of Parliament, Jaishankar said that the Indian government is in favor of maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all the countries in the West Asian region. He described allowing an Iranian ship to dock at an Indian port as the right decision taken on humanitarian grounds. He said the Indian government is monitoring the situation in the region and 67,000 Indian citizens stranded in the conflict zone have already been brought back. The safety of Indian citizens and national interests such as energy security and trade are top priorities for the government. India is in favor of peace and urges to adopt the path of dialogue and diplomacy. We advocate de-escalation, restraint and ensuring the safety of citizens.
