What happened?

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The main objective of this high level meeting was to find solutions to the technical and regulatory challenges faced by thousands of bus body builders in Rajasthan, especially Jaipur and Jalore region.

The new ‘Bus Body Code’ has been implemented by the Central Government to tighten safety standards. Due to (AIS 052) it has become difficult for small and medium scale body builders to work. Body builders of Rajasthan argue that their traditional business is on the verge of collapse due to the new recognition process and huge fees.

Rahul and Priyanka raised their voice

During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that it is important to follow safety standards, but thousands of micro and small industries should not be destroyed in the name of this. Priyanka Gandhi told Gadkari that people in Rajasthan have been involved in making bus bodies for generations. New stringent rules and complex certification process have created a situation of starvation for them. He demanded that some flexibility should be brought in the rules so that local artisans can also survive in this competition.

Nitin Gadkari gave assurance

Union Minister and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari listened seriously to the words of Congress leaders. He clarified that the government cannot compromise on the safety of passengers, but it is ready to consider the problems of small entrepreneurs. Gadkari has directed officials to review the technical aspects along with representatives of Rajasthan Bus Body Builders Association.

What will be the impact on Rajasthan?

If the government gives some relief in these rules, then hundreds of workshops located in cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bhilwara of Rajasthan can get a lease of life again. At present, due to lack of recognition, the buses made by these builders are not being registered, due to which investments worth crores of rupees are stuck.
