Tezzbuzz Desk- If you travel long distances by train, this news may affect your budget. Indian Railways has announced an increase in the fares of mail and express trains, which will be effective from 26 December 2025. After the implementation of the new rates, passengers will have to pay more fare for the journey than before.
According to the new Railway Ticket Fare Structure issued by Railways-
No increase has been made for journeys up to 215 kilometers in Ordinary Class.
For journeys more than 215 kilometers
Ordinary Class – Increase of 1 paise per kilometer
Mail/Express (Non-AC and AC) – Increase of 2 paise per kilometer
Railways estimates that this fare increase will generate additional income of more than Rs 600 crore. For example, if a passenger travels 500 km by non-AC or AC mail/express train, he will have to pay about Rs 10 more than the existing fare.
The distance from Delhi to Patna is approximately 1000 kilometers. Currently the fare of DBRT Rajdhani Express (3AC) is around Rs 2395. According to the new rates, there will be an increase of 2 paise per kilometer by Rs 20. After December 26, the new fare will be Rs 2415 (approximately).
It is noteworthy that this is the second increase in rail fare in 2025. Earlier, on July 1, 2025, Railways had also increased the fare. Then the fare was increased by 1 paise per kilometer in mail and express trains and by 2 paise per kilometer in AC class.
