Railway Jobs: Indian Railways provided 5.56 lakh jobs in 12 years, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared big figures in Parliament.

New Delhi. The Central Government has presented a big figure in the Parliament regarding employment in Indian Railways. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that a total of 5.56 lakh people have been appointed in Indian Railways from the year 2014 to June 2026. These recruitments include posts of various categories. According to the minister, 50,485 employees were recruited in Southern Railway during this period.

Comparing it with the tenure of the previous government, the Railway Minister said that during the UPA government between 2004-05 to 2013-14, 4.11 lakh appointments were made in the Railways. He clarified that the recruitment process in Railways is conducted based on the requirement of each zone and the available posts.

Emphasis on transparency in recruitment process

Ashwini Vaishnav said that Railway recruitment examinations are conducted on a large scale and the entire process is conducted in a transparent manner as per the prescribed guidelines. He also said that recruitment for different posts is done from time to time according to changing technology and operational needs.

One TTE is responsible for maximum five AC coaches.

In the Lok Sabha, Congress MP from Nanded Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan had raised questions regarding the workload on TTE. In response to this, the Railway Minister said that as per the new guidelines A TTE is given the responsibility of a maximum of five AC coaches or three chair cars or three sleeper coaches.

He said that the number of TTEs in a train is decided according to the number and class of coaches present there, so that passengers can get better assistance along with ticket checking. Besides, administrative instructions are also issued to Zonal Railways from time to time for effective utilization of human resources.

No separate record of income from canceled tickets

In a written reply to a question asked in the Rajya Sabha, the Railway Minister said that Indian Railways does not maintain zone-wise records of income from canceled and waiting tickets.

He also informed that the rules for canceling tickets of Vande Bharat Sleeper Express and Amrit Bharat Express are different from other trains.

According to Railway Minister-

• If the ticket is canceled 72 hours or before the departure of the train, 25% of the fare will be deducted.
• If ticket is canceled between 72 hours to 8 hours, 50% amount will be deducted.
• No refund will be given if tickets are canceled less than 8 hours in advance.
