Sumit, broken by four years of love affair, rape case, jail, compromise and again blackmailing, committed suicide by hanging himself in the garden. Police have received the call recording, investigation is ongoing.
Uttar pradesh: The death of Sumit, a resident of Kithauli village of Jani police station area of Meerut district, has shocked the entire area. On December 29, Sumit’s body was found hanging in an orchard in Daurala area. After the initial investigation, when the police talked to the family, it came to light that the case was not just of suicide but of long-running mental harassment.
According to the family, Sumit had a love affair with a girl resident of Shobhapur (Meerut) for about four years. Two years ago, the dispute between the two escalated and the girl filed a rape case against Sumit. In this case Sumit had to go to jail and he remained in jail for about six months.
Family members allege that at that time the girl and her family demanded money in the name of settlement. It was only after nearly Rs 2 lakh was paid that he did not turn up on the court dates, due to which Sumit could get bail.
Torture started again after coming out of jail
After coming out on bail, Sumit once again started contacting the same girl. The family says that Sumit still wanted to marry her. Old mobile messages and call records have revealed that Sumit kept trying to persuade her.
The family alleges that during this time the girl once again started pressurizing him. Sometimes Sumit was mentally broken by threatening to reopen the case and sometimes by talking about implicating other family members.
Sumit’s elder brother Dheeraj says that the girl used to say that if her words were not obeyed, she would file cases against other members of the family as well. Due to this fear, Sumit started living away from his family for the last two years.
Sumit was broken due to continuous threats
Sumit’s sister Priyanka cried and told that her brother had started living under a lot of stress. He often said that he was no longer able to bear all this. Priyanka alleges that the girl had completely broken Sumit mentally.
The mother says that her son had said many times that he would die due to depression, but the girl never tried to understand his condition. He alleged that even after filing the case, the girl did not let him live in peace.
Father Krishna Pal told that Sumit was working as a maintenance supervisor in Railways and was handling the responsibilities of the family. She was of marriageable age, but due to old cases and stress, she was not able to get married.
Again news of death came
According to family members, Sumit had talked to his girlfriend on the phone the night before his suicide. During the call he was crying and repeatedly asked her not to leave him. He said he couldn’t live without her.
The family alleges that the girl flatly refused. After this Sumit said on the phone that he was going to commit suicide. On Monday morning, a villager going to the farm saw the dead body hanging in the garden and informed the police.
Police have seized Sumit’s motorcycle, helmet and mobile from the spot. Along with this, an audio recording has also been recovered, in which a suspicious conversation is said to be recorded. After forensic examination the body was sent for postmortem.
Police officials say that all aspects are being investigated. Further action will be decided on the basis of audio, call details and statements of family members. At present the case is registered as suicide, but investigation is ongoing.
